Game 1 Dodger
Stadium- Greinke vs Vazquez
Volcanoes score first thanks to Adrian Gonzalez 2 run HR in 1st
inning, CAL would add 3 more in 3rd off a solo Ichiro HR and another
Gonzalez 2 run BOMB! Vazquez would only last 3ip 7h 5r 5k
Top 5- 2 out 2 on, Beltre jumps all over a Joe Saunders pitch,
launching it for a 3 run HR, breaking game open and Greinke in
command until 7th when Halos get a 3 run HR from ARod and thats all
for Greinke, Volcanoes add 1 more in 8th on Snider SF and onto
bottom 9 Halos Carlos Pena hits a 2 run shot, but just as fast as
rally began, it ends as Wheeler gets next two batters
Final 9-5 Volcanoes win
Game 2 Dodger Stadium, Jimenez vs Washburn
Halos get one in 2nd of Pena SF, Volcanoes retaliate with 3 runs in
3rd, bot 7 Halos get to Jimenez for 3 straight hits and Fuentes is
summoned who walks in a run to his first batter, then a failed DP
play allows another, followed by a SF and Halos have lead back 4-3.
Halos bullpen dominant and squash any thoughts of rally
4-3 final series tied 1-1
Game 3 Turner Field, Zambrano vs De La Rosa
Halos on board first again with a Raburn solo shot in 2nd, Volcanoes
answer with RBI single by Gonzalez in 3rd. Bot 4- Seven Volcanoes
hits plate 5 runs, a huge 2 run triple by Bartlett highlights inning
that saw 5 singles and a Callaspo triple also. Bot 6 K Morales would
take DBard deep for a 2run shot, Halos would get 1 back on solo
HRamirez HR.
Promptly though Volcanoes get 3 more in bot 7 playing small ball off
Gregerson.
Top 8 Braden would get 1 out but end up giving up 3 runs thanks to
Granderson's 2 run double, deficit too much for Halos who end up
losing 11-5, Volcanoes taking a 2-1 series lead
Game 4 Turner Field matchup of game 1, Vazquez vs Greinke
One of the greatest playoff games I have ever played, heck one of
the greatest overall games I ever played, so glad it was h2h action!
Halos had a 4-3 lead when CAL ties it in 7th, what a ninth inning,
Halos get sacks full but fail to score, bot 9 Bartlett with a 2 out
double to RF, Ichiro who had singled earlier on his horse being
waved home and is CUT DOWN at the plate!! 11th inning Volcanoes get
a baserunner to second 1 out and fail to score.Halos would do the
same in 13th. Each team would again threaten with runners on second
but neither could get the key hit until the bottom of the 15th 1out
Callaspo would single, Fox followed him with a 'grounder with eyes'
that got through, 1st and 2nd 1 out, Coke uncorks one , now 2nd and
3rd 1 out, Spilborghs, hero or goat time--- HERO as he laces a
single for walk off win!
3-1 series lead for California
Game 5 Turner Field Washburn vs Jimenez
Halos on verge of elimination,
Halos take a 2-1 lead after 2 played, With bullpens decimated by
last nights event, Washburn took the ball and turned in 6 strong IP
scattering 9 hit and 2r 0BB
Jimenez again though had walk problems 5 in 5ip and was lifted,
Corriea brough in relief did a great job of keeping CAL in the game
2+ shutout IP, however the bullpen of Choate & Bergesen toss 3
shutout innings and preserve the win
Final 3-2 LA, series 3-2 Volcanoes
Game 6 back to LA--- De La Rosa vs JSaunders
Volcanoes would draw first blood in this pivotal ball game, Jumping
out to a 4-0 lead after 4
Bartlett's RBI double would cap off a 3run 4th, De La Rosa turns in
5 shutout IP with 6k's and into each teams bullpens, Volcanoes would
get 1 more late off Snider double to make it 5-0, Bot 8, Halos bats
began to awaken getting a couple of baserunners on and finally
breaking the shutout, getting 1, but that's all Sherrill would allow
and Guerrier would work the 9th and series win
final 6-1
California Volcanoes the #5 seed pull off a grand series victory vs
the #1 ranked LA Halos
Thanks to Greg for great h2h play and congratulations on a fine
season!
