AL Division Series --- Philadelphia Smackdown (99-63) verse Capital City Capitals (90-72)

The defending AL Champion Capital City Capitals (90-72) travelled to Philadelphia to battle the East Division Champion Smackdown (99-63) for a second straight season.
Game One-  Capital City Capitals - Hyun-Jin Ryu (15-5) vs. Philadelphia Smackdown - Stephen Strasburg (11-5)

Smackdown are the first team to draw blood in the bottom of the 2nd.  Scrappy Jon Berti reaches base on a fielder's choice, proceeds to steal 2nd and then is driven home by a Josh Reddick single.   Capitals knot the game at 1 in the top of the 3rd behind a little luck.   Kevin Kiermaier reaches on a dropped flyball by Reddick.   Jose Altuve gets the trash can signal from the dugout and jumps on a pitch for a Double scoring Kiermaier.

Philly takes the lead in the 4th on a Danny Santana Double and the Capitals Marcell Ozuna answers with a solo Home Run in the top of the 5th.    Teams battle into the 7th locked at 2-2.   Ozuna comes up again and gets the benefit of a Hunter Renfroe error and JD Martinez follows that with an RBI single.   Capitals take a 3-2 lead into the bottom of the 8th.

Wheels come of completely for the Capitals as the Smackdown show off there nickname in a big way.   Philly hammers across 4 runs with singles from Reddick, Mondesi, Devers and KBryant.   Anthony Rendon makes a pivotal two-run error on a grounder by Yolmer Sanchez to open the wound further.    Nelson Cruz hits a meaningless solo HR in the 9th but Philly takes Game One by a score of 6-4.

Game Two- Capital City Capitals - Patrick Corbin (16-8) vs. Philadelphia Smackdown - Lucas Giolito (15-5)

Capitals jump out to an early 2-0 lead in the 2nd inning behind a Double by Nelson Cruz, followed up with base hits from Marcell Ozuna, JD Martinez and Jose Altuve.   In the 3rd, Caps tack on 3 more to go up 5-0.   Francisco Lindor leads off with Double, Walk from Anthony Rizzo, Double by Cruz but then the inning almost take a dramatic turn.  JT Realmuto lines into a double play but was extremely close to a triple play being turned.   Capitals get lucky after that with run scoring singles from Ozuna and Martinez.

Game starts to narrow in the 5th as Smackdown push across a run and have the bases loaded with masher Rafeal Devers coming to the plate.   Capitals make a questionable move by summoning Bryan Shaw from the bullpen where he induces a inning ending double play and keep their luck continuing.    Each teams scores another run and game two ends with a 6-2 Capital victory to tie the series at 1-1.

Game Three- Capital City Capitals - Lance Lynn (15-10) vs. Philadelphia Smackdown - Anibal Sanchez (13-5)

From the very start both managers could sense this was going to be a slugfest and they were not disappointed.   Philly jumps out on top behind a Kris Bryant Double and Kyle Schwarber single.   Caps respond with three in the bottom half, two of which come on an Anthony Rendon Home Run.   Smackdown not to be outdone, hammer a SIX spot on the Capitals in the top of the 2nd which went Naquin Double, Mondesi Triple, Reddick Single, Devers reaches on Rizzo error, Schwarber walk and then a monster Grand Slam by Brad Miller to go up 7-3!

Capitals think they are finished.....but score 1 in the 3rd, get a Rendon Double followed by a Nelson Cruz Home Run in the 4th to make it a ball game.   In the 5th inning, with two out and Ozuna on first, out of nowhere a miracle Home Run by Cesar Puello give the Capitals an 8-7 lead after 5.    Caps add 2 more runs in the 7th and 2 more runs in the 8th to claim a 12-7 game three victory.

Game Four- Capital City Capitals - Aaron Nola (11-9) vs. Philadelphia Smackdown - Marcus Stroman (16-8)

Capitals old ace Aaron Nola felt disrespected by getting the game four nod and it showed.   Nola tossed six shutout innings to prove he still belongs.   Capitals got two runs in the bottom of the first and scored three more in the bottom of the 7th on 4 BBs and 2 hits to close it out by a score of 5-0.     Capitals take the series 3 games to 1.

I want to congratulate and thank Noel for being the great competitor and person that he is!    I absolutely benefitted from some hot hitters and good timing during the games.   His team is equal or better than mine in every way and I just had things go my way during the short series.   Could have easily been Philadelphia's series.

Capitals looking forward to the ALCS!   Thanks!
Jason

SMC takes and early 2-1 lead on two solo homers off DeGrom after 2 innings. The Bombers get 4 in the bottom of the 3rd, two more in the bottom of the 5th, and, never looked back finishing the game 10-4.

Game 2 - Hendricks vs. Teheran
SMC got out to the early lead again in game 2 scoring a run in the top of the 2nd on another solo homer. The Bombers showed some power of their own hitting 3 solo homers in the bottom of the 5th. Once the Bombers had the two run lead they decided to turn it over to Pressly and Hader to lock down the last four innings for the 3-1 win.

Game 3 - Wheeler vs. Marco Gonzalez
SMC scored the first run of the game again and lead 3-1 after 6 innings. In the top of the 7th, Cishek started the inning by walking two after striking out the first batter. Trevor May came on and hit the next batter to load the bases for LeMahieu who carried his team MVP torch into the playoffs with the grand slam. Goldy tacked on another 2-run homer in the inning to make is 7-3. In the bottom of the 8th, they loaded the bases and plated one run with no outs. Once again, the Bombers look to Ryan Pressly to take control and that he did getting the next two batters to strike out and the last batter to ground out to end the threat. Diego Castillo closed the game finishing the revenge the team was seeking going into the series.
