The Capitals are destiny's darlings in the TBBL this year.  The team is solid top to bottom and just about every SP won 20 games.
Prediction:  Capital City in 6 Games (Wrong!)

2019 TBBL World Series

Game 1- Newcomb (SMC) @ Nola (CCC)

In a classic pitching duel, Newcomb throws 5.1 shutout innings and Nola goes 9.2 innings before surrendering the lone run of the game on a Howie Kendrick single that scored Roman Quinn in the top of the 10th. The Confederates bullpen preserves the shutout as a hosts of relief pitchers toss 4.2 innings of scoreless ball. With two men on and 2-out in the bottom of the 10th,, Trevor May entered the game and was able to retire Lindor on a flyout to left to earn the save. SMC wins the first game 1-0.

Game 2- Berrios (SMC) @ Corbin (CCC)

SMC scores first in the 2nd as Schebler lined a single to left center scoring Brian Anderson. SMC added a 2nd run in the 4th on a Tyler Austin solo homer. Peraza drove in Simmons with a single in the 5th to push the score to 3-0. Nelson Cruz of CCC hit a 2-run homer in the 7th to pull the Capitals within 1 run. SMC got some insurance in the top of the 9th with a Travis Shaw pinch hit, solo homer. Caleb Ferguson closed out the game in the 9th with a scoreless inning. SMC wins game 2, 4-2. Series 2-0 in favor of SMC

Game 3- Kluber (CCC) @ Teheran (SMC)

The Capitals jumped out early with a JD Martinez solo homer in the 1st. The top of the 2nd led to additional runs for the Capitals when Alex Gordon singled in Realmuto and Cesar Hernandez stroked a 3-run homer. Earl Weaver would have been proud. At the end of 2, the Capitals were up 5-0.  In the top of the 5th  Rizzo, Realmuto, Lindor and Alex Gordon all picked up an RBI as the Capitals chased Teheran to take a commanding 9-0 lead. Uncle Mo had switched to the Capitals as their bats had come alive. The Confederates finally got on the board when Peraza hit a 2-run homer in the bottom of the 5th. The Capitals kept churning as they added a run in the 7th on a JD Martinez homer and 2 runs in the 8th when Kluber and Kiermaier each picked up an RBI. The Confederates were only able to muster up 1 more run on a Kendrick RBI in the 9th. The Capitals flex some serious muscle to take game 3, 12-3. Series now 2-1 in favor of SMC.

Game 4-  Bauer (CCC) @ Newcomb (SMC)

The Capitals keep the momentum going with a 2-run homer off the bat of Rendon in the top of the 1st. Newcomb settled down and Bauer was pitching lights out until the 5th when Aldrelton Simmons singled in 2 runs with 2 outs. As the 5th inning concluded Bauer in frustration hurled a baseball out of SunTrust park, over I-75 and into the Chattahoochee River. Such a Herculean feat with a baseball has never been witnessed before. The game turned to the bullpens in the 6th , and the pens kept the score at 2-2 going into the 9th. German Marquez entered the game in the top of the 9th and retired Peraza on a flyout to left. Up stepped Jose Abreu and with a 1-0 count he deposited a walk-off, solo homer into the left field stands.  SMC wins game 4, 3-2 and takes a 3-1 series lead.

Game 5-  Nola (CCC) @ Berrios (SMC)

Nola looking to back up his game one 9.2 inning masterpiece, runs into trouble in the 1st as Travis Shaw jacks a two run homer. The Capitals draw within 1 in the next inning on a Realmuto solo homer. The Capitals knot the score at 2 in the top of the 3rd on a Rizzo RBI single. In the bottom of the 3rd, Abreu lined a double to left to score 2 runs. Berrios helped himself later in the inning with an RBI sac fly. After 3 innings, SMC led 5-2. In the 7th JD Martinez doubled in Rendon to pull within 2 runs, 5-3. In the top of the 9th Ferguson retired the first two batters, but Lindor reached on a infield single. With the tying run stepping to the plate in JD Martinez, the Confederates turned to Trevor May. May struck out Martinez to earn the save and complete the Cinderella Story of the 2019 Stone Mountain Confederates.

MVP: Jose Berrios    2-0     1.64 ERA

Let me first say, thanks to Jason Eaton of the Capitals whose sportsmanship was unmatched. He was very gracious, especially considering the team he could run out onto the field. He is a real class act. After this series was over, he said his team had won 21 of its last 22 games coming into the World Series.  His team should have won this thing. DMB has a funny way of conducting its business sometimes.  Frankly, Beartooth should have beat SMC, Emerald City should have beat SMC and Atlanta should have beat SMC. I give all the credit to the DMB program for showing favor on my Confederates. I’m still having to pinch myself every now and again to make sure it is real. This team is a true testament that if a DMB team can just manage to sneak into the playoffs anything can happen. Special thanks to Rob and all the effort he puts into this league to make the TBBL the league all other leagues strive to be.
