The Smackdown made a late
run at the Division and settled for the #3 Seed and will
face off against Toronto. Starting pitching is very
strong and will need to set the tone early against a solid
lineup. |

The Toronto Crown Royals
changed management mid season and finished at .500.
The team is built on starting pitching while the offense is
power driven and has the tendency to swing and miss often. |

Prediction:
Philadelphia in 6 games (wrong!) The
team who pitches the best wins this series. |
PHILADELPHIA, PA --
Toronto wins a wild Wild Card series in 7
games. After pitcher duels in the first two games, both teams broke
out the lumber. Toronto was huge in Game 4, with Dunn, Smith, and
Alvarez hitting back-to-back-to-back homers in the 7th, then Alvarez
tying the game in the bottom of the 9th with another Alvarez homer,
then Casilla hits a walk-off double in the bottom of the 11th. That
tied the series 2-2. Smackdown won the next game, but then Toronto
scored 11 runs each in game 6 and 7 back in Fenway to take the
series. Great job by Tony - better watch out Greg.
TORONTO -- Tight series as Noel
indicated. We just piled on the runs the last 4 games and the
series definitely could have gone either way. Thanks to Noel for 3
hours of fun and intense ball. Four of the seven games were 1 run
games and we outscored the Smackdown 44-40 thanks to 29 extra base
hits, including 13 homers.
Adam Dunn had 4 homers and 9 RBI in the series, most by any player
on either team. What is funny after looking at the stats is we
combined for 1 save in the series. |
