An ongoing feature on the TBBL web
site will include monthly
interviews with some of our
league members. In our
next to last installment of 2010, I
recently caught up with Scott
Lewis.
TBBL: Hello and thanks for
taking the time to be
interviewed. How are you doing
today?
Scott: Doing well...hectic time
of year. We just finished
building our new house, now have
to sell the old one. Thrown in
the holidays and it is pure
chaos.
TBBL: Please tell us a little
bit about yourself. Married?
Kids? Where did you grow up,
what college did you attend (if
you did), and where do you see
yourself in 10 years from now?
Scott: I am happily married to
my beautiful wife Donna. I have
3 boys from a previous marriage
and she has 2 boys....all
are grown and out on their own.
We also have 2 grandsons. I
grew up in San Jose, California
and move to Madison, WI. in
1979. Hopefully in 10 years, I
will be right where I am.
TBBL: You are one of the
original owners in the TBBL so
you have had 7 years to build up
a rivalry, who is the team you
have the biggest rivalry with?
Scott: The Paddlers have had
fair success in the regular
season but have been abysmal in
the Post Season. It seems as
though everyone has taken their
turn knocking us out. Since the
Newark Eagles were the latest to
do so, I suppose the paddlers
would like to take it to them.
TBBL: Do you have any players on
the trading block currently?
Scott: We are looking for a 2B,
a young OF and possibly an All
Star CA (who isn't). We are
deep in SP and have some good
prospects as well. If we don't
acquire a 2B, we will slide
Cliff Pennington from SS to
cover.
TBBL: Your team has been in the
post season every year since
2007 and has been a power in the
NL. Which team did you think
was your best overall team and
why?
Scott: I thought this
year's team was my best and had
a chance to get to the
Championship. I felt we were
deep and balanced. You never
can predict what will happen in
a short series and we just
didn't put it together when it
counted.
TBBL: If there was one trade
that you could take back, which
trade would that be? And what's
the best trade you've made to
date?
Scott:
I am not terribly unhappy with
any of my trades. A couple had
mixed results but overall,
fairly happy. I did have one
trade that worked out
particularly for me. In January
2006 I moved Gary Sheffield in
return for Andy Marte and Justin
Morneau. Marte has been a bust
but Morneau has really played
well. I have never like Sheffy
anyway.
TBBL: Shifting to the MLB now,
who's your favorite team and
why?
Scott: I am a Brewer fan and go
to 10-15 games a year. I
probably watch anther 50+. I
was a SF Giants fan growing up.
Now that Bonds is retired, I can
cheer for them as well. My
third favorite team is whoever
is playing the Yankee's. yes, i
am one of "those" guys.
TBBL: Which baseball stadiums
have you visited and which is
your favorite?
Scott: Candlestick (closed
for baseball now), County
Stadium (now a parking lot for
Miller Park), Miller Park and
Wrigley Field. Miller Park is a
beautiful “newer” stadium and is
a very enjoyable
experience. Day games in the
summer are a blast at Wrigley,
especially when the Brewers win.
TBBL: Who is your favorite
baseball player, both current
and all time?
Scott: My favorite player all
time is Robin Yount. I am also
a big Willie McCovey fan. As
far as current players go, I
enjoy cheering for Prince. He
just a fun guy.
TBBL: What is your favorite
movie of all time?
Scott: I always have a hard
time choosing just one but Fight
Club, Into the Wild, One Flew
Over the Cuckoo's Nest and The
Great Escape certainly make my
short list.
TBBL: Tell us something about
yourself that may surprise us.
Scott: I am a lifelong
motorcycle fanatic.
TBBL: What is the average
temperature in your home town in
January?
Scott:
0 degrees on a warm day
TBBL: Which player was your best
overall draft pick and why and
which player was taken right
before you expected to pick him?
Scott: In 2009, Gordon
Beckham was picked the slot
before me. I had really hoped
to land him and would still like
to get him. Dan Uggla (14th
round) was probably my best
single pick but I will say that
the 2008 draft reshaped my
team. I drafted Rick Porcello,
Max Scherzer, Bret Anderson,
Jarrod Parker (inj), Chris
Perez, Madison Bumgarner and
Martin Perez. |
