An ongoing feature on the TBBL web
site will include monthly
interviews with some of our
league members. In our
first installment of 2011, Scott
Felt is on the hot seat:
TBBL: Hello and thanks for
taking the time to be
interviewed. How are you doing
today?
Scott: Doing well, thanks.
TBBL: Please tell us a little
bit about yourself. Married?
Kids? Where did you grow up,
what college did you attend (if
you did), and where do you see
yourself in 10 years from now?
Scott:
I’m 41 years old and married. I
have a 15 year old daughter and
two boys, 11 and 9 years old. I
was born in Southern
California. I graduated from
Cal State Fullerton with an
English degree. I moved to Fort
Collins, Colorado where I lived
for 11 years. While there I
returned to school (at Colorado
State) and earned a Computer
Science degree. Six or seven
years ago I moved to Houston,
Texas, where I am currently.
And, given that I have children
in school who probably would
prefer not to have their lives
disrupted, I imagine I will
still be here in 10 years time.
TBBL: The team you inherited has
been a playoff contender the
past few years. When you first
took over the team tell us your
first impression of the club?
Scott:
Haha. Well, I have pretty
quickly turned the team into
good, but not great team, I
think. But, for me, with any
new team, I look for players
that I might not have on any
other team that I run. In this
case I was super happy to have
Felix Hernandez on my roster. I
do not have him anywhere else
and have enjoyed and hope to
continue to enjoy having him
lead my rotation for a long
time. In never hurts to see Joe
Mauer and Justin Upton on your
roster either.
TBBL: Do you have any players on
the trading block currently?
Scott:
Not actively, no. I still feel
like I’m getting acquainted with
my roster and how it stacks up
with the teams in my division.
I do have a lot of depth at a
few positions, though, I imagine
that I will look to turn that
surplus into something I can
better use at some point.
TBBL: If there was one trade
that you could take back, which
trade would that be? And what's
the best trade you've made to
date?
Scott:
Well, since I haven’t made too
many deals in TBBL yet, so I’ll
assume that this means any
trades in any league. Hmmmm.
Well, one trade I really regret
these days is trading Troy
Tulowitski for Nick Markakis. I
made that deal in BYOF in 2006
and for a while I thought I had
made a good deal. But, it’s not
looking so hot these days. As
for a good trade . . . well, I
did manage to get a 3rd
round pick out of Scott Kazmir
earlier this year in SPBNOW.
That’s a lot better than the
Angels managed to do with him,
anyway.
TBBL: Shifting to the MLB
now, who's your favorite team
and why?
Scott: My favorite team is
the Angels. It was my mom’s
favorite team and the team we
grew up rooting for.
TBBL: Which baseball stadiums
have you visited and which is
your favorite?
Scott: I have been to Petco,
Angel Stadium, Dodger Stadium,
PacBell (I guess AT&T now),
Safeco (just last week while on
vacation), Coors Field, Kaufman,
the previous version in St.
Louis, old Tiger Stadium,
Tropicana, Skydome, old Yankee
stadium, Fenway, the Ballpark at
Arlington and Minute Maid.
Most of these were great places
to see a game and I enjoyed them
all. But, I think AT&T is my
favorite. It was beautiful
seeing a full moon hanging over
the bay while a ballgame was
going on in a great, modern
ballpark.
TBBL: Who is your favorite
baseball player, both current
and all time?
Scott:
My favorite player growing up
was Nolan Ryan. I also really
liked a few of the other better
Angel players from my youth:
Rod Carew and Bobby Grich.
Currently, although no longer an
Angel, I still really like Vlad
Guerrero. I just love watching
that guy swing at balls all over
the place and make good contact
with pitches most anybody else
would have let go by.
TBBL: What is your favorite
movie of all time?
Scott: I guess I will go
with “No Country for Old Men”.
I thought the movie was great
and McCarthy is a great author.
TBBL: Tell us something about
yourself that may surprise us.
Scott:
Well, since I don’t know most of
you at all and none of you very
well, I don’t see how anything
could be too surprising.
TBBL: Who do you have the
biggest rivalry with in the TBBL
and why?
Scott: I haven’t developed
one so far.
TBBL: What other DMB leagues are
you apart of and tell us a
little about your favorite
league (other than the TBBL of
course)
Scott:
I’m in quite a few. I am a
member of ADML1 , ADML2, BLB,
BYOF, HFBL, NARC, PSCB, UBL and,
of course, TBBL. I like all of
the leagues. BYOF has an
awesome website. NARC has a
totally automated system. You
post your MPs and results and
rotations and everything to the
site and that’s very cool.
TBBL: If you were TBBL
commissioner for a day, what
would you change and why?
Scott:
I’m still too new to have any
good thoughts about what I would
change if I could. Because I
play in so many leagues, though,
what I really wish is that I had
a master calendar so I could
always keep track of what and
when things are due. But,
that’s not something that TBBL
commissionership could resolve
for me. Thanks for the
interview.
