An ongoing feature on the TBBL web
site will include monthly
interviews with some of our
league members. In our
first installment of 2010, I
recently caught up with myself.
Please enjoy this cutting edge interview
below:
TBBL: Hello and thanks for
taking the time to be
interviewed. How are you doing
today?
Rob:
I am pretty good considering.
My back is bothering me, my
hands are sore from all the
typing i have been doing the
past few days and did I mention
my back was hurting?
TBBL: Please tell us a little
bit about yourself. Married?
Kids? Where did you grow up,
what college did you attend (if
you did), and where do you see
yourself in 10 years from now?
Rob: I grew up in Central
NJ and now live in Jackson, NJ.
I took the plunge in 2006 and
now have two kids, one boy
(Bobby) and one girl
(Alexandria). They are 15
months old now and have started
walking and they actually sleep
through the night now which is
the best news for me and my
wife.
I work in Trenton for the State
of NJ as an IT person and can
see myself running the state of
NJ in 10 years. I probably
could do a better job than the
last governor but that's another
story for another day.
TBBL: Since you've been a member
of the Thunder Bay Baseball
League, your team has been
up and down. What is
your best memory of your team
since 2004?
Rob: I had one really
good season and made it to the
World Series but came up short
that year. I really like
drafting the young players and
having them turn into solid
major leaguers. I also
know that if I want to pick a
young player I need to get to
him before Mike of the Eagles
does as he seems to have a
webcam monitoring my off season
scouting. I think its all
those years of me stealing his
player in our fantasy baseball
drafts!
TBBL: Do you have any players on
the trading block currently?
Rob: If the player is
over 30 he is on the block!
Seriously though my team is a
year or two away from being
decent and guys like Sheffield,
Matsui and a few others could
help contending teams in 2010.
I am also shopping Angel
Villalona and his ball and
chain. He is out of jail
and who knows what could he
could have become, perhaps the
best player the California Penal
League ever saw!
TBBL: Shifting to the MLB now,
who's your favorite team and
why?
Rob: The New York Yankees
are my favorite team ever since
i can remember baseball. I
went to my first game with my
Dad in 1977 and was hooked as
soon as I saw the grass through
one of the tunnels leading to
our seats. I couldn't get
over how green the grass was.
I can't wait to share that same
moment with my son and daughter
at the new Yankee Stadium.
TBBL: Who is your favorite
baseball player, both current
and all time?
Rob: My first favorite player
was Graig Nettles. He was
the first guy I remember seeing
in 1977 and I knew I wanted to
lay 3B. I use to have my
dad through me the red super
ball in the living room and I
would make diving plays up
against the wall simulating
Nettles. It was great!
My favorite player now is Derek
Jeter. He is the man.
I think he is the greatest
Yankee ever, hands down.
TBBL: Tell us something about
yourself that may surprise us.
Rob: I like chocolate milk
TBBL: Who do you have the
biggest rivalry with in the TBBL
and why?
Rob: Last place!
Thats the only rivalry i have
built to date. Overall my
team has really stunk with the
exception of 2007.
