Bringin' the Thunder

March 1, 2013

An ongoing feature on the TBBL web site will include monthly interviews with some of our league members.  Catching up with Casey of the Colorado Gladiators:

TBBL: Hello and thanks for taking the time to be interviewed. How are you doing today?

Casey:  Doing good , thanks for asking Rob. I’d be more inclined to ask how YOU are doing? I hope all y’all east-coasters come out of the blizzard ok Pal.

TBBL: Please tell us a little bit about yourself. Married? Kids? Where did you grow up, what college did you attend (if you did), and where do you see yourself in 10 years from now?

Casey:  Not married, no kids but, I’ve been with the same lady for almost 10 years. We’ll get it done someday soon. I went to Art School and, some CC. I wasn’t a great student but, I am toying with going to law school. I have some goals but, in ten years I primarily hope to be ALIVE and HEALTHY!

TBBL:  You have the “Trader Mentality” in your blood, which trades have been your best and worst trades to date both in the TBBL and the Bunt League?

Casey:  I nailed it with a deal with Fork Wayne last year, getting Gio Gonzalez, Ian Kennedy , and Mark Trumbo in the same deal (no offense to my friend Stan, who has got me plenty of times). On the other hand, I shipped out Giancarlo Stanton AND Pedro Alvarez in the same deal a few years ago. In BUNT? I know I’ve made some good deals but, all I can think of is the litany of prospects I have dealt that have turned into stars… Stanton, Chapman, Lincecum, Wieters, Bumgarner, Moustsakas, etc …  plus Ryan Braun. I won’t trade Oscar Taveras!

TBBL: Do you have any players on the trading block currently or are you looking to acquire any specific position?

Casey:  Well, I offered a certain owner in TBBL a 30 homer hitter, in his prime (Mark Trumbo) for an unproven starter (Trevor Bauer), wink wink. Seriously, Trumbo isn’t on the block but, I AM looking to acquire good, young, starting pitching but, hey, who isn’t?

TBBL: How many days a year does it rain where you live?

Casey:  It rains EVERY day (or at least It feels like it) except for about three weeks in late July and early August, when it is glorious.

TBBL: Shifting to the MLB now, who's your favorite team and why?

Casey:  The Seattle Mariners and, sometimes I don’t know why. Felix Hernandez is an amazing athlete and a good dude too.

TBBL: Which baseball stadiums have you visited and which is your favorite?

Casey:  I’ve only been to Safeco and AT&T, both are terrific. My favorites are a few of the Arizona spring trailing ballparks – Pioria Sports Complex, Scottsdale Stadium, Ho Ho Kam. I love the warmth and the atmosphere down there.

TBBL: Who is your favorite baseball player, both current and all time?

Casey:  Hmm, currently I’d say Oscar Taveras,  Dustin Pedroia, Super Joe Mauer. All-time, I’d say Rickey Henderson, Robin Yount, or George Brett .. and Rob Deer.

TBBL: What is your favorite movie of all time?

Casey:  Pulp Fiction and Goodfellas hit me hard but, there a lots of ‘em.

TBBL: Tell us something about yourself that may surprise us.

Casey:  I play poker a lot, and for too much money J I’m also hilarious, and fun to hang out with, or so I think.

TBBL: Who do you have the biggest rivalry with in the TBBL and why?

Casey:  Wow, they are all tough. I enjoy em’ all but, Greg and Rocky are baseball geniuses and a tough challenge to try and beat. All great guys. If you ask me, we should play the whole league h2h. It really promotes competitiveness and, would cure the overuse problem wouldn’t it?

Thanks for interviewing me Rob. I enjoyed it. Good luck this year everyone and, enjoy the baseball season guys! Spring is almost here!
